mise en scene
Mise but, in film analysis, the term mise en scene refers to everything in front of the camera, including the set design, lighting, and actors. Mise en scene in film is the overall effect of how it all comes together for the audience.
For example, in this picture. The camera angle is from above with the people and the props placed below them, this is used to make the people look powerless as everything is below the camera, however this would be different if everything was above the camera. The costume are not cared for in this scene showing that their position is rough.
The things that contribute to mise en scene are:
- makeup
- texture
- costuming
- art direction
- composition
In these images, the costumes give the characters a sense of realness to what is actually happening in the scene and what they would actually be wearing in that.
