I am an 18 year old aspiring filmmaker from Stockton-On-Tees. I am a positive and uplifting person. Some of my strengths are working well under pressure and in difficult situations. and I am quick at thinking on my feet. I am extremely interested in Production design and I am looking for some work that will help me learn new things around that, and to challenge my creative thinking.
First year
Music video- Knee deep at the ATP
During this music video, we didn't have set roles for production. It was more of a joint effort for everything. However Freya Whitehouse was our actor. We all were production designers/managers on this set and I really enjoyed learning new skills for this role. I did a third of the pre-production paper including risk assesments, call sheets, schedules, prop and costume list and power points. We went location scouting for a couple of days and did our research and where we wanted to film, and then it took around three days to film the whole thing. We then edited our own version of the same footage.
Christmas advert
During this project we had to create a John Lewis advert in a group of three. We had to create a company name in which we came up with ‘freedom films’. I worked in a team of three including me, Casey Weedall and Freya Whitehouse. We started off with paperwork including risk assessments, casting call and call sheets. It then came down to choosing a cast in which we all had a say in. It was then time for filming and this was over the course of three days, in which i was in charge of lighting and making sure everyone was where they needed to be at the right time.
copycat
During the copycat scene I worked in a crew of two and a cast of three. This included Casey Weedall, Sienna Pounder, LaToya Borg, and Jason. Me and Casey were the crew members, sharing the roles. I was mainly production design, where we used the science lab to copycat the twilight scene, the runner and lighting. Overall this project went very well.
feature
During the feature film, i was in the production design team. Although not everything ran as smoothly as it could have, I learned a lot from this experience. I learned a lot about preparation and organisation in the industry and how you have to have a set fully prepped and ready for filming. This was a very educational project for me in terms of production design.
final film
My final film was a process that I also learned a lot from. It was my first bigger project on my own, so it was a lot of work to keep on top of which gave me organisation skills and time management. During this, I took on all the roles there is to the industry, Including director, producer, runner, and production design. This was very challenging but I managed to get the project finished and too a good standard. I have identified my mistakes from this and are ready to put them into practice during this project.
Second year
Suspense piece
During this, The class took a trip to Whitby to create a suspense piece in larger groups. Our group consisted of around 10 people including crew, Actors and makeup artists. During this project I was the assistant director to Alex Temperley who was the director. I assisted her in making sure everyone was in the right place at the right time, and that the production ran smoothly. I was also the location manager during pre-production. Overall this project went very well and it turned out better than we had hoped, as we all worked as a team, even after a minor problem with the group.
Christmas film
This project was a group of me, Casey Weedall and Martin Cunningham. I’m this project, I was also production design and location manager. I set up and designed the set in my Grandmas shed to look like a victorian workshop using old dirty sheets, and my grandads old toolbox. This turned out to be very realistic and looked great on camera. I also chose the location of a Victorian street in which I chose Hartburn Village as it extremely old looking and was within our budget.
I would appreciate if you have my application for this role good consideration.
